MASAKA. State Minister for Agriculture, Vincent Ssempijja, has asked NRM elders in Masaka District to convince his daughter quit the Bukoto East constituency parliamentary race.

This follows accusations by a section of party members in the district that Mr Ssempija fronted his daughter, Ms Justine Nameere, against Dr Abdullah Nkoyoyo, the official party flag bearer for the constituency seat. The members accuse the Minister of dividing the party.
“Some people are spreading rumours that I am fronting my daughter against the party flag bearer. This is not true. I have tried to persuade her to pull out of the race but I have failed. NRM elders in Masaka should intervene and help stop her candidature,” the minister pleaded.

Mr Ssempijja said he was also surprised to get information that Ms Nameere was collecting signatures to contest in Bukoto East constituency after being defeated in the race for chairperson for National Youth Council.
The minister made the remarks last week during the official launch of NRM flag bearers’ campaigns in greater Masaka sub-region in Masaka Town.

Ms Nameere, a lawyer and former host of Life Stories show on NTV, was last week nominated to contest as an Independent for the Bukoto East constituency seat, joining NRM’s Nkoyoyo, Democratic Party’s Florence Namayanja and Philip Lusiba, an Independent candidate.
However, Ms Nameere said her candidature was motivated by the desire to serve the people in the constituency.
