Rakai- Police at Mutukula Border Post in Rakai District are holding a ruling NRM Sub-county chairperson and a councillor for their alleged involvement in cattle theft.
The suspects who are currently in police custody include the NRM chairperson for Kibanda Sub-county and the party chairperson for Kakuuto Sub-county, who also doubles as the area sub-county councillor.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the duo attacked a farm of a resident of Kitabi in Kakuuto Sub-country identified as Mr George Kasaguzi, who is a father in-law for one of the suspects, and made away with 25 head of cattle.
It is alleged that the stolen animals were taken to Kampala and sold during Christmas.
Mr Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the duo’s arrest, saying police investigations are ongoing.
