KAMPALA. Police have taken over all events meant for the send-off of local artiste Cornelius Oloya, alias Master Blaster, citing fears of revenge attacks against South Sudan nationals in the country.
Master Blaster was shot dead at Eden Service Park, an entertaining venue in Bwaise, a Kampala suburb, following a scuffle with South Sudan nationals on Monday night. The latter had booked the venue for their Christmas festivity. It isn’t yet clear who shot the artiste.
Police cancelled Master Blaster’s send-off function organised by Bwaise residents. Police spokesman Fred Enanga said “the public view of the artiste’s body at Bwaise may result in incitement to violence against South Sudanese in the area.”
“Master Blaster was just renting in that area. There is no need to take the body to Bwaise. The body will be given only to the relatives for burial,” Mr Enanga said yesterday.
Following the shooting, residents attacked South Sudan nationals in the area, burning some of their homes in revenge attacks. On Tuesday, the police had to seal off Eden Service Park after residents attempted to gain entrance to remove those holed inside the bar.
