Gumikiriza wants to retain Christmas Cup honours

KAMPALA. Meet him at any hangout spot, Alfred Gumikiriza will wear that casual smile, throw a high five and make fists as he tells stories with colleagues.
There are no signs that he’s still reeling from the pain endured when his friend Amos Ndyagumanawe beat him for the Nile Special National Pool Open title back in October.
Actually then, Gumikiriza had huge thoughts about quitting the sport. “I had decided that 2015 would be my last year in pool,” he recently told Daily Monitor.
“My plan was to win the Open and get that car then venture into something else,” the 2012 Open champion said. “But looks like I will stick around for some more time.”

That things didn’t turn out as planned, top seed Gumikiriza now has a chance to fight and retain his title when the delayed Christmas Cup gets underway at Rock Catalina Bar in Ntinda tonight.
“When I am on table, I always mean business and I will go out there to play for the trophy,” said the man in his early 30’s.
Gumikiriza faces a familiar stumbling block in Ndyagumanawe, who recently helped Skin Samona clinched another successive Senior Pool League title a fortnight ago.
Reigning national Open champion Ndyagumanawe won this title three times from 2011-13.
