Presidential candidate Abed Bwanika will enforce compulsory education for all once he is elected president
Mr Bwanika acknowledges government’s effort towards granting free education but said this has not solved illiteracy challenges, something he said has hindered economic development.
“My government will fine-tune free education because it is a good programme but I will also ensure that it is made compulsory for all Ugandans who never had the chance to go to school,” he said, adding “I will also set up an education enforcement unit at the district level to ensure that the policy is fully implemented.”
Bwanika made the remarks last Friday while campaigning in Mpigi District.
He also reiterated his plan to give free laptop computers to learners from Primary Four to Senior Six.
New airports
Mr Bwanika also promised to construct new international airports which he said would boost tourism and international trade with South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to Bwanika’s plan, one of the airports will be set up at Mutukula Border post in Rakai District, while another will be constructed in the northern part of the country.
He also promised to give out one million fishnets to fishermen every year to promote good fishing.
