MPIGI. Two people have died on spot and eight others survived with serious injuries at Lungala-Kkoba village near Mpigi town along the Kampala-Masaka highway.
Mr. Ahmed Kimera, DPC Mpigi has confirmed the accident, saying it happened this afternoon before attributing the cause to reckless driving.
A Mark II registration number UAY 786G from Masaka collided head-on with a vehicle belonging to NAADS, Rukungiri District Double Cabin No. UAR 010L.
“The driver of the Mark II left his lane and drove into a lane for those vehicles heading to Masaka. I think he was sleeping by the time of the accident,” he said.
Also in the same place, a lorry ferrying eucalyptus trees lost control, veered off the road and fell down.
Mr. Kimera identified the deceased as Andrew Gomwe, the driver of the double cabin and resident of Rukungiri and a one, Esther Asiimwe, the daughter of the daughter of the Gomwe’s boss.
All survivors were taken to Mpigi Health Center IV for treatment and wreckages of vehicles towed to Mpigi Central Police Station.
Some of the injured include, Mr. Emmanuel Ssendi, Mbabazi Francis, two kids aged 2 and 7, among others.
