Appreciating my wife and all the mothers

Mercy Kakama’s makeover experience

“I was a little confused when Full Woman called informing me about a makeover. Honestly, I did not understand a thing you were saying. I thought you either called the wrong number or you were simply playing some kind of game.

Even though I ended up agreeing to it, I still remained puzzled wondering if it was really genuine. However, when I later discussed this strange call with my husband, he mentioned that I was not being fooled as he had earlier sent an email to the team requesting for my makeover. I appreciate that we finally met and did this.

The overall experience was a fantastic one since this was the first time I was doing an expert makeover. Even when I had my wedding back in 2012, my makeup was very simple and not as elaborate as this. I really came out looking different.
All the four outfits that were chosen for me were classy and stylish. My favourite, however, was the patterned dress with a coat. My ‘figure’ came out very well in the outfit.
This is something I would wear to church. I thank the team for being very cooperative and warm towards me. Annet, the lady who chose the outfits, was so kind and patient, and the photographer who was directing me on how to pose, which I really do not know how to do well.

Other than that, this overall experience made me realise that it is very important to be smart regardless of the what one does. I’m self-employed. I own a retail shop dealing in soft drinks.

My daily outfits are simple dresses and I never wear any makeup. However, this experience is a revelation that despite my job, it is important to look presentable as a woman. It is for this reason that I would want to do this makeover again if another opportunity availed itself.”

Olivia Darius, a makeup artiste with Paramour Cosmetics Limited, did Kakama’s makeup. She says; “I gave Mercy a natural look with foundation, and defined her eyebrows with a dark brown eyebrow pencil. I brightened her look with hot pink lipstick and an orange shade for the pink kaftan.”

The outfits
Annet Kiconco at Uzuri Fashion House said of her choice for Kakama’s choice of ensembles; “Her body works well with dresses. She has also mentioned that she loves dresses, so I settled for only dresses.

She can wear the pink kaftan for ceremonies including weddings while the black and yellow dress can be worn to work. The other two are suitable for church, dinner, work or business meetings.”

Husband’s letter

“I would wish to introduce this Lady Kyomugisha Mercy staying in Katooke a suburb near Kasubi Wakiso District a mother of three boys aged three, six years, and six months. She manages to balance both work and home alone without a maid. She wakes up as early as 5am to ready the school-going children and tackle the housework before heading out to work at her small shop in Katooke Trading Centre, 1km away.

She picks the children up at 12pm and 4pm. Off the three children and their mother walk home with the luggage she carried from home in the morning. At home, she delves into making super and other chores… and this is my wife’s routine from Monday to Saturday, week after week, leaving her no time for herself. We need to give credit to all mothers, especially single mothers. Please help me appreciate mine with a makeover.”
