4,000 get free treatment in Butambala

By SADAT MBOGO

At least 4,000 people have received free medical treatment and checkup at Butambala County headquarters in Kabasanda at a health camp.

According to Dr Ben Mukwaya, Buganda’s health minister, the camp was intended to offer free HIV/AIDS counselling and testing, cancer and sickle cell screening, dental and eye care, blood donation and safe male circumcision.

Kabaka’s subjects, are gathering at Kabasanda Playground where official celebrations will take place tomorrow when the kingdom will mark 23 years since Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was crowned as the 36th Kabaka in 1993.

The kingdom was restored by President Yoweri Museveni’s government after the abolition of cultural institutions by the former president of Uganda Dr Apollo Milton Obote in 1966.

Police have deployed over 200 officers to ensure security.

Kabaka is expected to spend a night in Butambala because, traditionally, he spends a night in his palace in a host county.

The celebrations kicked off with other several activities including,  a bicycle race, wrestling, prayers and a coronation Cup competition between Butambala and Ssingo football teams.
