Power-Pemba Warriors clash to tip off NBL second round

By ELVIS SENONO

Kampala- Pemba Warriors coach Sam Obol played down the impact of his side’s 85-57 heavy first round loss to rivals Power.
The game was both sides’ second fixture at the time. “It was a case of failing to convert our shots. It is a reality check but we should be able to bounce back,” he said then.

His team went on to lose three more games as they concluded the first round in sixth position with a 7-4 record.

The two teams clash again as the National Basketball League (NBL) second round tips off at YMCA this evening.
This time however a similar result is unlikely to go down well with those attached to the club.

The game represents a clash between the two most supported clubs in domestic basketball.

More importantly however a loss would indicate a lack of progress for a team that habours title ambitions and announced an annual Shs250m sponsorship at the start of this season
“A win means we will be heading the right direction,” admitted Phillip Ameny, the Pemba Warriors center who played for Power last season.

Power meanwhile only lost two first round games as they concluded with a second league best 9-2 record.

“We all know that things are not good in terms of sponsorship but our fans have come in big and tried to cover the void. We are going through adversity but the adversity has helped bring the team players n team manager together,” captain Joseph Ikong said of his team’s season thus far.
