Tornado contests rival side’s league title success

Kampala- Perhaps, the rift between sister sides Tornado and Tornado Bee has hit peak since the latter broke away over a decade ago.

Tornado ever suffered maiden relegation after not turning up against Tornado Bee for the crucial Jazz Safari Men’s Division One 50-Over League decider at Lugogo Oval last Sunday.

Postponed from May 15 due to a sewerage leakage at Lugogo, Tornado had written a letter prior to Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) that they could not honour the rescheduled tie.

But UCA quashed their excuses including not being aware of the postponement, maintaining ground that Tornado Bee’s walkover earned them a fourth successive league crown.

Record league winners Tornado sought help from UCA Trustees Steven Luswata, Abbey Lutaaya and Viram Keshwala but were sent back to appeal through UCA.

“We’ve gone ahead to submit our appeal to UCA and already paid the Shs200,000 appeals fee,” Tornado Honorary Secretary Fred Lutaaya told this paper yesterday.

“We know UCA Executive has a meeting this evening (yesterday) at Lugogo so we expect something,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tornado Bee have still put their celebrations on hold. “Its not the right procedure to take appeals to the Trustees,” Tornado Bee captain Jeremy Kibuukamusoke said. “We’ll still act accordingly if anything changes.”

As these namesakes play their cricket with pen and paper instead of bat and ball, other clubs are geared for the National Twenty20 League which bowls off on Sunday.

UCA released the fixtures with 20 teams divided into two groups according to how they finished last year. Defending champions Patidar Samaj are with Tornado Bee in Group A.
