Yummy Valentine’s Day treat

Mongolian buffet at Kabira Country Club is a delicacy.

In Summary

Kabira country club. On Valentine’s Day, a buffet was served.

One of the greatest occupational hazards of being a top chef is the unrelenting pressure of never knowing whether what you cooked today was as good as entrée you cooked yesterday. Above all, will customers continue to come in droves? More on this phenomenal conundrum anon as I tell you about the sad suicide of one of the greatest chefs which occurred recently.

On Valentine’s Day we were at Kabira Country Club where a sumptuous buffet for all of Shs 75,000 or Shs 125,000 was the order of the day. A buffet is not something common at Kabira and came somewhat as a surprise, nevertheless in the hands of top executive chef Joshua who has been around for seven years. A la carte with a continental and Asian flair is de regueur at Kabira but assuredly the buffet was not only a treat but well executed.
Soup was a choice between a subtle but wonderfully sublime chicken consommé and a hearty Mexican bean soup. I chose the former while my fellow trencherman was enthralled with the multifarious bounty of vegetables such as whole kernel corn, kidney beans, cilantro, bell pepper and chili powder.

More on menu
Next, was an array of vegetables for making your own salad, different types of lettuce, bell peppers, yellow onions, tomatoes, celery, radicchio, rocket and lots more. These were accompanied by several dressings including a classic thousand island, Roquefort cheese and a French dressing. I would have been surprised if they did not have a pasta station and indeed there were different types including penne and spaghetti along with mushrooms, garlic, onions, chili and cheese. Naturally not everyone is a fan of pasta and so rice and Irish potatoes were available.

Meat and dessert
The carvery was limited to roast chicken and beef and in my view roast pork and goat would have added a tremendous flip to the affair. However, there were several sauces from which to choose and then further along the line were mixed curry vegetables and Goan fish curry.
The desserts were heart shaped and came in chocolate, raspberry and vanilla.
