MBALE. The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has said it would challenge in court election results for Budadiri East Constituency, claiming they were marred with ballot stuffing and other electoral malpractices.
The incumbent MP Mr Isaiah Sasaga, said he would file a petition seeking a court order to nullify the election results.
“I am not satisfied with the outcome of the results because there are clear signs that the elections were rigged. First my agents were chased away from Bumasifwa and Bugitimwa sub-counties where police took advantage and stuffed ballots for my rival,” said Mr Sasaga.
“I have decided to seek justice in court,” Mr Sasaga said, claiming that police under the command of DPC Mr Moses Nanoka, beat up people and stuffed pre-ticked ballots in favour of Mr Vincent Woboya, the NRM candidate.
The results indicated that NRM’s Woboya garnered 19,034 defeating his closest rival FDC’s Sasaga who polled 17, 219. Mr David Woniala, an Independent candidate polled 4,813.
When contacted, Mr Nanoka said he deployed police officers in the district to ensure there is law and order and peace during the elections.
“True, he is my brother in law but as a police officer in charge of keeping law and order, I played my role and all those allegations of rigging are baseless, let them produce evidence,” Mr. Nanoka, said.
On his part Mr Woboya, however said he fought hard for the victory and there was no way Mr Sasaga would have beaten him.
“I campaigned, I had agents everywhere during the elections. Nobody chased Mr. Sasaga’s agents as he claims. He just failed to send them to these sub-counties,” said Mr. Woboya.
