Pirates, Bufaloes itching to finish rugby league first round on a high

The Nile Special Rugby Premiership takes a break for a fortnight after today’s round of fixtures.

The first round has had less to cheer about as everything has been rather predictable. It remains a two-horse race at the summit with Betway Kobs and Hima Cement Heathens, although Pirates has constantly showed signs of breaking the duopoly after a near-perfect first round.

Buzz Pirates travel to Entebbe hoping to cap the first round with yet another gleaming performance against Sadolin Mongers. “If you saw us play last season, you can see that there is a lot of improvement this campaign,” Pirates’ star player Ivan Magomu told SCORE.

“We want to finish the first round with a win and wait to see what the second round has to offer.”
Toyota Buffaloes host EzeeMoney Rhinos, who have blown hot and cold in the first half of the season. Rhinos have punched way below their weight in the first term if their previous campaigns are anything to go by. Captain Eric Kasiita blames the inconsistency to lack of concentration during key moments in the games played thus far.

“Not sticking to the game plan has cost us games in the first round. We always start well only to fall short as the games proceed.”

Warriors have been unfortunate to record just a single win despite the quality in their ranks. Their journey to Gulu to face the lowly-rated Elephants is expected to yield another win for them. At the Graveyard in Makerere, Impis host Rams in what will be a mouth-watering rubber.
