Stop extorting money, US cleric tells pastors

By FELIX AINEBYOONA

Mbarara- An American preacher has asked pastors in Uganda to help their followers develop spiritually and economically rather than focusing at extracting money from them.

Speaking at Healthy Living Conference for pastors from western region in Mbarara on Thursday, Mr David Dykes said some pastors start churches in order to get money from their followers other than preaching the gospel.

“Some pastors, all over the world, start churches for their personal benefit but not helping their followers live better lives. Their focus is basically money and that is not what healthy churches do,’’ he said.

“You must make sure your people are not only spiritually upright but you also need to engage them in development activities that better their lives. You should think of other ways in which you can earn a living other than depending on followers,” he added.

The conference was organised by Parental Care Ministries in Mbarara.

The executive director of Parental Cares Ministries, Pastor Emmanuel Nyanzi, said the conference was to help pastors know their obligations as church leaders.
