The right door for your house

In Summary

The entrance door does not necessarily have to consist of the traditional frame and panelled door, it could be designed that there are framed window panels on each side, creating the illusion of grandeur

It has been said that eyes are the windows into the soul. I say doors are the windows to your habitat. A door says a lot about the inhabitants of the building on which it is fixed. It is, therefore, important that a lot of consideration is put into choosing a door for the entrance of your office, home or business.

The entrance door does not necessarily have to consist of the traditional frame and panelled door, it could be designed that there are framed window panels on each side, creating the illusion of grandeur. Doors can be designed from different materials depending on the purpose for which they are going to serve. In Uganda our front doors are usually made of glass whilst in other countries they are panelled doors with a key hole to see through.

Back doors or front doors are mostly made of metal or hard wood, secure material. Internal doors are made of much softer material, pine, MDF. These are some of the most popular type of doors;

• French doors; can be both exterior and interior doors. They have the ability to open up a space and create a big entry or exit. They swing towards each other and meet at the centre.
• Sliding doors; made of a panel that moves on tracks. They are very practical especially in tight, small areas i.e wardrobes, closets, offices and gates.
• Windowed doors; these are partly glass panel and part wooden panelled. Commonly used in bathrooms or rooms that are dark, the glass being access for light
• Swing doors; used in heavy duty/ high traffic areas. Kitchens, busy offices, no time to deal with handles just push and you have access.
• Roller doors; used on shop windows and garages but personally I would prefer these to burglar proof on the front French doors.
