Sponsors get money’s worth after meeting President Museveni

KAMPALA. It is hard to get a corporate company to sponsor a sporting tournament, any local federation official will tell you. Apart from the fiscal times being very hard, sponsors feel they don’t get enough mileage. More often than not, sport is one-way traffic. Whoever facilitates never reaps back financially with the only joy coming from the wins garnered by the respective wins. Uganda Golf Union (UGU) president Kiryowa Kiwanuka went through the same ordeal in the build-up to the just-concluded Africa Zone VI Golf Championship. For starters, none of the sponsors expected Team Uganda (18.5 points) to edge South Africa by one point to the continent’s premier amateur golfing event. But in the aftermath of the victory, every corporate company was left wishing they had contributed to the team’s and tournament’s preparations. KK, as the UGU president is normally referred to, carried along all the sponsors to the State Lodge in Nakasero when President Museveni hosted the victorious team for lunch on Monday. There was ‘firm’ handshake and moment for each of the sponsors from NTV’s Aggie Konde to Dorothy Muttu, the marketing manager premium beer, at Uganda Breweries Limited. That was surely money well spent!
