Man held over beheading wife

Police in Kampala have arrested a 45-year-old man suspected to have beheaded his wife. The suspect allegedly beheaded his wife who was a matron at Light Secondary School in Seguku on Entebbe Road.

Mr Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, said the suspect carried out the act on the night of June 3. “On June 6, the Police in Kakiri picked a headless, naked body of a female adult,” Mr Onyango said at Central Police Station yesterday.

Three days before the body was picked, the relatives and school administration had reported a case of a missing person. It was later confirmed that the beheaded person was Namata.

The school gateman was arrested to help the police in their investigations. He repeatedly denied having any knowledge regarding the victim’s disappearance. “We went and retrieved phone records which revealed that Lubega had spoken to the gateman inquiring whether his wife had moved out. The gateman confirmed that she had left the school and that was when she was last seen,” Mr Onyango said.
