Civil servants ordered to return livestock

PADER- At least 20 civil servants and nine politicians in Pader District have been given one week to return all the livestock they received under Operation Wealth Creation programme this month.

The directive follows complaints from locals who were meant to receive the animals but they were instead given to civil servants and politicians.

It is alleged that the right beneficiaries were illegally tasked to pay Shs100,000 before one could receive the animal during distribution of the recent consignment of 37 heifers that the district received under the Operation Wealth Creation.

Pader District chairperson Godfrey Oringa Largo said civil servants and politicians who revived the animals who failed to return the animals within one week would be prosecuted.
“We cannot watch when the right beneficiaries are missing out on government programmes intended to eradicate poverty at household level,” Mr Godfrey Oringa said.

However, majority of civil servants and politicians who received the animals vowed not to return them, saying they are also entitled to benefit from the Operation Wealth Creation programme.

The coordinator for the Operation Wealth Creation programme in Acholi sub-region, Mr Francis Ongom Achoka, recently said all citizens are entitled to benefit from the programmme but the guidelines should be followed.

The district has so far received 94 heifers under Operation Wealth Creation.
