MASAKA- Authorities at the Masaka District health department have declared that they have successfully contained the spread of yellow fever that broke out in the area a couple of months ago.

In April, the district was gripped with fear following an outbreak of yellow fever, which ravaged communities forcing the Ministry of Health to put in place surveillance measures.
The most affected areas were Buwunga and Bukakata sub-counties where seven people died mysteriously.

Dr Stuart Musisi, however, said that following massive immunisation rolled out in the area late last month, there are clear indicators that the fever has been contained.
He said majority of residents were vaccinated which boosted their immunity against the virus.

Dr Musisi noted that a turn-up of 93.3 per cent was realised which, according to him, is a great achievement.
He added that following the exercise which was even extended to schools in the area, the district has not registered any new infections.

“We are convinced the district is safe from the virus having vaccinated majority of the population,” he said.
Dr Musisi cautioned the public to continue taking precautionary measures to avoid being exposed to the disease.
