Two arrested over stealing youth funds

PADER- Police in Pader District are holding two youth group leaders of Gen Bedi Youth Animal Traction over alleged embezzlement of Shs7m advanced to them through the Youth Livelihood Fund.
The two including the group chairperson and treasurer, were arrested last Friday after repeatedly failing to account for the money.

It is alleged the two, in April, forged minutes and signatures of other group members to withdrew disbursed money from the group account and later told other members that the money was yet to be deposited on the account.

The officer in charge of Pajule Police Station, Mr Abed Mayanja, confirmed the arrest, saying the two were respectively picked from their homes in Lakoklil village, Paiula parish and Pajule in Pader District.

“Investigations have been completed. The suspects have been transferred to Pader Central Police Station, waiting to appear in court,” he said.

Since 2014 to-date, more than 47 youth groups have received Shs263m in Pader District but only three groups have started repaying, with only Shs2.3m so far repaid.
