Arua. The increase in price of meat per kilogramme this Easter season in Arua has created low demand for the highly prized commodity among the locals.
While the price at this time last year was at Shs9,000, this time round it has risen to between Shs10,000 and Shs11,000. Goat meat is going for Shs12,000.

Dr Luke Taban, the in-charge of Arua Municipal Abattoir, said this time 40 head of cattle and 32 goats had been slaughtered, which totals only half of the animals slaughtered last year.
“The increase in prices of meat has led to low demand among the consumers compared to what happened this time last year. It could partly be explained by price fluctuations according to where these animals are bought from,” Taban said.
Ms Cecilia Driwaru, a resident of Lumumba Road cell in Arua Municipality, said: “I will eat my chicken which I have been rearing because meat is expensive and their weighing scales are inaccurate and they cheat us.”

Meanwhile, the Catholic priest in Arua has said people should not let darkness distract them from leading a Christian life.
During his homily on Easter Day at Christ the King Church in Arua, Fr Andrew Guma, said: “We should allow light to guide us in all we do but don’t allow darkness distract us.”
He said people should remain strong in faith, love and peace this Easter season. He said there was need to have forgiveness among the people in communities.
At Moyo Catholic Parish, Fr Grace Waigo, said Christians should use the resurrection of Christ to reflect on their lives. He said the Easter season should be for forgiveness and sharing with the poor, the sick and the needy in communities. During the Mass, Moyo Town S.S. offered four bags of cement for construction of the parish priest’s house that had stalled for eight months.
