A section of crime preventers fundraised towards the construction of St Mary’s church, Kitoma parish in Isingiro district.

The group led by the National Coordinator Crime preventers Forum Mr Kamugisha Blaise raised shs20 million towards the construction. The group claims they were hosted by the church as an appreciation for their activities rendered to the community.

Speaking during the mass, Mr Kamugisha said crime prevention is God’s calling and thus a Godly act.
“You cannot claim to love the God you don’t see if you cannot love the neighbor you see every day.

Crime prevention is a Godly act. It is about progress, development and improvement of quality of life of our people. Crime preventers represent love in their respective communities” Mr Kamugisha said.
“We cannot say we contributed much, because we are not sure what is needed, what we contributed is from deep down our hearts, at least it can tile the church or even buy glass windows,” he added.

The Isingiro district coordinator Crime Preventers Forum, Mr John Mudogo also commended the efforts of his colleagues.

“The congregation and Mr Ambrose were surprised, they appreciated so much. They did not know that we could raise that money. We also bought a cow at shs 2m, goats and chicken which we gave to crime preventers to celebrate Easter too,” he said.

The chairman committee of St Mary’s church, Mr Twinomugisha Ambrose on his part said that the crime preventers have given them a push towards the construction.

“We shall use shs 13m to put glass windows and the rest to tile the church, we thank the crime preventers and pray that God blesses their works,” Mr Twinomugisha said.

It should be noted that while passing out crime preventers recently, the Inspector general of Police Gen Kale Kayihura said that it is a voluntary service that comes with no salary.
However, Mr Kamugisha elaborated that the source of the 20 million raised was out of economic activities that the crime preventers have been engaging in recently.

“At every sub county, we have clusters of crime preventers engaged in commercial farming. We are also contracted by the police to supply food, this is where we get out money, otherwise this service of crime prevention is totally voluntary,” he said
