Launched. The bridge was launched with a call to residents to use te road profitably by transporting their produce to markets.

Arua: Arua District leaders have commissioned a Shs950 million bridge on River Aca which had stalled since 2011.
This followed a petition by a whistleblower to the Inspector General of Government (IGG) that the construction of the bridge was marred by corruption.
The bridge which connects Oluko Sub-county to Ajia Sub-county was also a subject of contestation between some residents and district planners about its location.
Some residents claimed there was influence peddling by a high ranking district official who wanted it to pass through his land.

But during the commissioning at the weekend, the acting district engineer, Mr Anson Draku, said all the accusations against them were false.
“I was summoned by the IGG and police about this bridge but all (accusations) were found to be false and that is why this bridge is being commissioned today. In any case this bridge will help all of us because the old one was risky,” Draku said.
A district official, who spoke to Daily Monitor on condition of anonymity, said a petition was sent to the IGG because the cost was thought to be exaggerated.

Benefit
The district chairman, Mr Sam Nyakua, asked residents to use the road profitably by transporting produce to the markets to improve their household income.
“Use the road to access good markets for your produce so that you can pay school fees for your children,” Mr Nyakua said.
