In 2003, a crop of about 12 young, visionary youths set out with a goal to change people’s views of religion through music and dance.
The Royals drew their name from the Bible in 2Peter which says “The Royals are a chosen generation or royal priesthood who were gotten out of darkness to help others see the light.”
These young people use the same message to help people discover their talents and transform them through the word of God. Some of the members are instrumentalists, poets while others are singers and dancers.
They include Gershom Ogwang, Rogers Kawuma, Wyclif Kyazze, Keith Mukiibi, Patience Mukoyo, Annet Kauma, Carol Nakayiwa, Tina Nanteza, Joan Atu, Daryl Mwesiga, Trisha, Mark and Jonathan Ssewaguma.
Activities
the royals takes part in charity activities such as include charity work where they visit the needy, buy them household items and clean up their houses.
They also minister to young students in high schools as well as conduct career guidance. The group has visited schools such as Naalya High School, Nile High, Mukono and City High School among others.
“We are live in Kireka and are working on having a bigger and more convenient place where we will have a dance studio with training facilities,” says Ogwang, one of the members.
Sustainability
The Royals is an independent group with mostly students and a few working members.
“I marvel at our ability to sustain the group but it always comes back to God. God’s will is God’s bill. When God has a will in your heart, it is his bill but the most important thing we always do is that we position ourselves to the will of God.”
Becky explains adding that: “We help one another by providing the little we get so that those in need are well-taken care of. We have never failed to take care of any problem.” Despite the overwhelming numbers, the group is open to new entrants provided one’s morals are within God’s will.
They say the main principle the group fronts is character. They welcome people from all walks of life and just like Jesus Christ who didn’t discriminate, they teach people to fall in line with their beliefs and behaviours.
Future prospects
The group is looking at transforming more people through offering moral and financial support because many highly talented people lack someone to encourage them with the gifts and talent God offered them which can help them earn a living.
They hope to do this in a period of three to five years after getting different connections in different parts of the country and other parts of the world.
About the concert
The Royals will hold their maiden concert dubbed Dance to worship explosion slated for January 9 at National Theatre.
The aim is to glorify God through dance and to show people a clear understanding of worship not only in singing but dancing .
