SEMBABULE- The Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) parliamentary candidate for Mawogola South Constituency, Mr Baker Mukasa, and four of his supporters have been charged with defacing President Museveni’s campaign posters in Sembabule District.

Mr Mukasa was charged together with Mr Hadadi Kaweesa, Mr Ramathan Ssewanje, Mr Huzairu Seruyange and Ms Firidausi Nabayunga before Sembabule Grade One Magistrate Doreen Ajuna on Wednesday.

Prosecution led by State Attorney Allan Muchunguzi told court that on January 25, the accused defaced Mr Museveni’s posters at Mateete Trading Centre where presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi was scheduled to hold his campaign rally.

The suspects denied the charges and were each granted cash bail of Shs100,000 and Shs4m not cash. They were ordered to report back to court on February 25 for mention of their case.

On Monday, riot police fired live bullets and teargas to disperse members of the Opposition who allegedly defaced Mr Museveni’s posters during a demonstration in Mateete Trading Centre to protest against the act of NRM supporters who had reportedly plucked down posters of Dr Kizza Besigye and Mr Mbabazi and replaced them with those of Mr Museveni.
