Amuru. Members of Parliament from Amuru District last Thursday went down on their knees and apologised to locals in the district over the past incidents resulting from the land wrangles that also saw women strip before ministers.
The MPs, Maj Gen Julius Oketta (Army representative), Mr Gilbert Olanya (Kilak County, and Woman MP Lucy Akello regretted the incidents and said they must never occur again.

Last year, there were recorded scenarios of violence and abuses against locals in the district following government’s bid to demarcate the contested Apaa land in Amuru District that is also claimed by locals of Adjumani District.
The legislators delivered their apology to the locals last Thursday during a function organised by Acholi Religious Leaders Peace Initiative (ARLPI), at Pabbo Primary School playgrounds.

MPs Olanya and Akello went down on their knees and asked for forgiveness from the electorate and political rivals in case they had wronged them.
Maj Gen Oketta also apologised for abuses. However, Ms Jane Frances Okili, the NRM flag bearer for Amuru District Woman MP seat, said she does not believe the apologies by the legislators were done in good faith.
