One dead, two admitted amidst fears of cholera outbreak in Jinja

One person has died and two others admitted at Jinja referral hospital amidst fears of cholera outbreak in the district.






The Public Relation Officer of the Hospital Ms Sarah Mulonge confirmed that three cases had been reported at the hospital with symptoms similar to those of cholera disease, adding that one person had died, however the other two are being watched closely.






“It is true there are cholera cases reported in the facility. We are working out with a team from Ministry of Health in Kampala to isolate these patients from the rest,” Ms Mulonge said.
The hospital director, Dr Sophie Namasopo declined to comment on the death of one of the patients; however she confirmed that the other two will be treated as cholera cases.






“We are treating them as cholera suspects, samples have been taken to the Ministry of Health Public laboratory to confirm whether its cholera or another disease as for now the patients have been isolated and receiving treatment,” she said.






Dr Namasopo said the patients are all residents of Masese and Walukuba division Jinja Municipality ,one of them is responding to the treatment positively .






She cautioned the public from consuming cold food on streets , eating un washed fruits and report cases with symptoms similar to Cholera for easy management.
