Celebrate Africa

Nigerian Igbo wedding attire rhymed with the Africa Day theme; Joram Muzira’s multicoloured blazer and African choker received applause; An African round neck T-shirt befits a weekend;

Africa in every sense, from the decorative at the welcome area, with long pots with African straws, then the attire of guests who respected the African dress code then the invitation cards that had Uganda flag colours.

Tables were decorated with cow horns, baskets with fruits, small drums, and in the middle of Victoria Hall where the event was held, was a sitting area which depicted an African living room with a mat on the floor, chairs made out of straw then a drum on which were coffee beans and a basket placed on top of it.

The fashion show, which was the main highlight, was heavily themed around African attire that had materials such as bark cloth which were worn by our forefathers and mothers as well as bamboo. Most of the clothes flattered bodies, particularly plus size which was out of norm where models are normally skinny.

One of the local model scouts, Joram Muzira, showcased his unique African attire, a multicoloured jacket and ‘African choker’ necklace which attracted attention of many guests.

The chairman of Multichoice Uganda, Steven Musoke, and the guest of honour, Tourism Minister- Maria Mutagamba, all hailed the need for the youth to adopt and pride in their African heritage and culture.

The theme was created around fashion and culture as an expression among young and old people in Africa.
