Kimanya, Kibuli on course to dethrone Kitende

Defending champions St Mary’s Kitende face a stern test to retain this year’s trophy as dark horses Blessed Sacrament Kimanya SS and record kings Kibuli SS continue to prove they are commendable challengers.

Richard Wasswa’s boys didn’t break sweat to reach the Copa Coca-cola Schools Cup semifinals yesterday at Soroti Sports ground but had to thank Mukono side Dynamic SS for self-destruction.

In a game they started with vigour and covered every breadth of grass, Dynamic capitulated at the second half resumption with defender Yusuf Ramathan easily bringing down Pius Wanji in the box to earn a penalty and marching orders.
Wanji scored from a rebounder after custodian William Katende had saved the initial shot to give Kitende the lead.

Dynamic didn’t relent in attacking Kitende and looked the better side despite being a man short but a moment of madness from their lead striker Mansoor Safi saw them reduced further to 9 men.

Safi kicked Kitende defensive midfielder Fred Atuhwera in anger forcing referee Moses Oloya to send him off.
Shortly after, Wanji scored Kitende’s second and his 13th goal of the tourney to seal the game.

“I liked the physical approach to the match and it has given us lessons to take into the semis,” Wasswa said.
After ejecting spirited St Juliana 1-0, Kibuli coach Dan Kabaale believes his side will be unstoppable. “Now that my Steven Mukwana has started finding the back of the net, we are surely going to sweep to the title.”
