KAMPALA. Ponsiano ‘Mafu Mafu’ Lwakataka is back in the cockpit this weekend after nearly three years out battling a murder case.
He is back and vocal vowing to show Evo X Bisodde drivers that it is not enough to buy new cars.
Lwakataka will be driving his old Subaru N8 which he calls Empologoma enkadde (old Lion).
The two-time national champion (2005, 2007) was speaking to the press at Mulago ‘kataka’ ground yesterday after demonstrating some of his skills that he will put on show during the Lato Milk Mbarara Rally 2016 this weekend.
“It is not about buying new cars, you also need to be skillful to perform,” he explained.
‘Blick a major force’
“Arthur (Blick Jr) proved last season by winning the NRC title that you can beat the best cars around. Arthur is the most senior driver other than me. We started with him in the same event in 2000 but he decided to concentrate on motocross. He will still be a major force this season,” Lwakatataka said.
Lwakataka then added that the sport of motorsport needs him contrary to suggestions that rallying was better off without him. “You have seen the crowd (here); close to over 500 people who were not invited. I have not spent money on my car, it is the fans. You will see many of them at Pine Ridge for the Super Special event cheering me.”
The Lato Milk rally gets underway on Saturday morning with drivers negotiating 5kms of the Super Special at Pine Ridge, Bwala in Masaka on Saturday.
