Mpigi- Go Forward presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi has said his government will set up ginger factories in districts of Mpigi and Butambala when elected to reduce youth unemployment which is now estimated at 83 per cent.
While addressing supporters at a rally at Buwama Sub-county headquarters in Mpigi District yesterday, Mr Mbabazi also promised to create more than 500,000 new jobs countrywide in three years. “Ginger factories shall add value to people’s produce, widen their market base and this will help to eradicate poverty from our households,” he said.
Mr Mbabazi said more local factories will be established to process agricultural products so as to transform the national economy. He added that community banks will be built to give small scale loans to people.
“Loans from our community banks shall be interest- free and a national Identity Card with sales receipts shall be your collateral security,” he assured.
He also said cooperative unions are to be restored and each village shall have a cooperative society as a centre for development and market research. He promised to construct a hospital in Mpigi District and assured the community of accessing safe and clean water.
Mr Mbabazi’s visit attracted heavy police deployment at Buwama Health Centre III because of fear that he would visit the health unit, which he ignored.
There was confusion among Go Forward candidates when Mr Mbabazi introduced them together with their rivals. He introduced Mr Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku, a Go Forward candidate, with Mr Vincent Mayanja Ssali for Mawokota South constituency.
Ms Harriet Nalubega (Go Forward), Ms Evelyn Kigongo and Ms Teddy Nambooze are for Mpigi District Woman Member of Parliament. Mr Mbabazi asked voters to decide on who to vote.
