With a few days left to Christmas celebrations, police have warned citizens against posting about their movements on social media, saying it alerts criminals.
Mr Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson said: “Nowadays people like posting whatever they are doing even after withdrawing money. This is very risky and exposes them to being trailed by thugs. You should know we are in the season where robberies and house break-ins go up,” Mr Enanga said.
He asked travellers to avoid carrying large sums of money but use smart money cards, bank drafts and mobile money services. Traders were also advised to seek police or reputable private firms’ escort when moving large amounts of money during the period.
The police asked travellers to follow traffic rules, obey road signs and observe speed limit and use seatbelts to avoid accidents.
Mr Enanga also cautioned citizens to avoid wearing expensive jewelry, especially gold ornaments and leaving expensive gifts and gadgets in cars. “As police we are going to increase the presence of security personnel. We ask for public cooperation so that we can have a peaceful festive season,” he said.
