BUKOMANSIMBI. It was a moment of grief yesterday as hundreds of mourners turned up at Kawoko village, Butenga Sub-county in Bukomansimbi district to pay last respects to the Bukomansimbi District woman MP, Ms Susan Namaganda, who died in an accident at the weekend.

However, it was at her burial that her elder sister, Ms Veronica Nanyondo, was presented by their paternal uncle Eleneo Wasswa as the family’s choice for the MP’s political position and will contest for the Bukomansimbi woman MP seat.
Several speakers who addressed the mourners prior to the MP’s burial, however, called for investigations into the possible cause of the accident. The Masaka Diocese Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa, who led the mass at the MP’s ancestral home called for immediate investigations into the death of the MP. He said there were contradicting accounts pointing to the death of the MP and that police owes the public a deeper explanation.

The bishop wondered how Police failed to apprehend the said drunk driver that is said to have killed the MP.
“This devastating moment has actually left us in a state of speculation because I personally doubt how a drunk driver managed to escape from the scene of crime after the accident,” he noted adding that “I am not an investigator but everything is suspicious.”
For purposes of clearing their image before the public, Bishop Kaggwa demanded that concerned authorities release clearer details of the MP’s death.

Ms Namaganda, the first Bukomansimbi woman MP died on Friday after she was involved in a fatal accident on Kampala-Masaka highway, in which she sustained serious injuries that her eventual death. Her controversial death has raised speculation both from politicians and some sections of society with some suggesting that she might have been murdered.
According to a preliminary Police report, the departed MP’s car was rammed into by an over speeding taxi, whose driver is on the run. The clergy hailed the late Namaganda’s contribution towards the development of the church, her constituency and the country as whole.

The priest described the deceased as a committed, brave, ambitious, courageous and highly intelligent leader of rare character who respected others who also inspired hard work among the youth and fellow women. Although the late Namaganda had introduced her husband Fred Mukasa Mbidde to her parents in 2012, they were not yet married in church.

Bishop Kaggwa told mourners that although the deceased had not yet legalised her marriage in the Catholic faith, the Church took a rare decision to honour the late through holy mass.
“I had a confidential chat with her and it is for this reason that we have performed prayers for her,” he added.
The Catholic Church does not perform mass for couples that die before legalising their marriage in church.
