Bunyoro Diocese bishop steps down

Hoima- The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara diocese, Rt Rev Nathan Kyamanywa, has announced his early retirement from office.

While delivering his Christmas message on Christmas eve, Kyamanywa said he informed the diocesan synod on December 10 and the Archbishop of Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali about his proposal and he endorsed it.

“At my 60th birthday on December 14, 2016, I will step down as bishop of this diocese,” he told the press at his office on Christmas Day.

Anglican bishops retire at 65. The Bishop said he shortened his tenure in office by five years after feeling that he had achieved the targets for which he was appointed bishop.

“I started serving full-time ministry at the age of 19. By December, 2016, I will have served the church for 41 years. I feel I have done what God called me to do,” he said.

He said other Ugandans can emulate him to vacate offices whenever they feel they have achieved their targets.

He said the process of selecting a new bishop has kicked off but his successor will be installed on December 4, 2016.
The bishop also condemned the violence that marred the NRM primaries and said the fighting and intolerance was unwarranted.

“There is life after elections. Why fight a person in elections who you will need. Choose candidates of your choice after assessing theirabilities. If one does not give you a vote, it is not a crime,” he said.
