KAMPALA-
City Hall Magistrates Court Tuesday ruled that two youth charged with sneaking piglets into Parliament have a case to answer.
The suspects; Mr Robert Mayanja and Mr Norman Tumuhimbise, are charged with criminal trespass and interrupting Parliament proceedings.
In a session before the trial magistrate, Mr Moses Nabende, court ruled that basing on the testimonies of the four prosecution witnesses, the duo have a case to answer.
The prosecution witnesses who are all police officers include; Sgt Robert Aboko, Sgt Bernie Twesigye, Corp Benjamin Arishaba and Sgt Paul Okwili.
The lead witness Sgt Aboko in his testimony told court that he saw the two youth at the stairs of parliament sneaking in the pigs. However, he failed to state how they beat security at the gate, yet he manned the parking lot.
Speaking to Daily Monitor after the ruling, the suspects’ lawyer, Mr Isaac Ssemakadde, said his clients have chosen to stay quiet in defence.
Mr Ssemakadde further said that they have asked court to visit the alleged scene of crime since the prosecution were confusing issues when they alleged that the suspects were arrested in the Parliament parking failing to produce the sketch map.
Prosecution contends that on June 17, 2014 Mr Mayanja and Mr Tumuhimbise with intent to demonstrate and interrupt Parliament proceedings entered the House premises with pigs.
The Parliament security, including regular police, Criminal Intelligence and Investigations officers and members of the Special Forces Command attached to the premises arrested the duo on the eventful day. The demonstrators were dressed in T-shirts inscribed with slogan “Jobless Brotherhood”.
