Police fire fighting truck knocks dead motorcyclist

MASAKA
A fire fighting truck on Thursday night knocked dead a boda boda-rider.

The incident happened along Masaka-Nyendo road near Ambiance discotheque at around 8:30 pm.
The deceased, only identified as Robert Julius, who was driving a Bajaj Boxer Registration Number UDX 660-A, was heading to Nyendo according to eye witnesses.

The police vehicle Registration Number, UP 2352, that was involved in in the accident was being driven by a one Kawuka.
The deceased was attached to Byansi stage and his body was taken to Masaka referral hospital for postmortem.

According to George Kiwanuka, a boda boda cyclist at the same stage, the deceased was driving so fast when the truck came from the opposite direction and hit him.

“I was on my way to Nyendo and witnessed the accident, the vehicle was coming from Ssaza crossing the road to proceed to Masaka police station, the deceased tried to pass and that is how he was knocked and died on spot,” Kiwanuka said.

Angry boda boda riders tried to destroy the vehicle but police intercepted them.

Police declined to speak over the matter as journalists were stopped from taking pictures of the vehicle.

In April this year, a medical police officer attached to Kimanya-Kyabakuza health Centre identified as Grace Bwayiga knocked dead a two days baby in front of Masaka police station that was being carried by its mother.

However, Police in Masaka did not place any charges against her claiming that the baby was already dead.
