RUKUNGIRI- A man suspected to be a motorcycle thief has been beaten to death by cyclists.
The rampaging assailants also burnt his house.
The deceased has been identified as Paul Kafeero, 54, a resident of Nyabihinga Kyatoko Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality.
He was attacked by the mob near Chello Fuel Station in Rukungiri Municipality on Monday.
It is alleged that on Sunday, Kafeero hired a boda boda cyclist to transport him to Buyanja but while on the way, he hit the rider on the head with iron bar, seriously injuring him.
Kafeero reportedly took off with the motorcycle.
The victim, Mr Derrick Tumuhimbise, a resident of Omukalele was taken to Mbarara Referral Hospital in a critical condition.
Kafeero hid his loot at one of his homes in Nyabihinga Kyatoko Eastern Division.
The mob found various property suspected to have been stolen at the home of Kafeero.
The items include a motorcycle, two four mattresses, a TV set, music systems, crates of beer, iron bars and blood stained jackets.
The attackers also destroyed about two acres of bananas and killed pigs and goats of the suspect.
Mr Fred Karamuzi, the chairperson boda boda cyclists Rukungiri said their colleague Akakwatsa Kakono was killed by iron bar hit men in Rukungiri town on July 23 and his motorcycle taken.
“At least two motorcycles have been stolen in the last two weeks and their owners killed. Police has done nothing and we are tired,” he said.
He advised the police to deal with idle people who spend a lot of time drinking during the day saying such people could the ones behind rising crime in the area.
However, Mr Justus Twinamastiko, the officer in charge of criminal investigations condemned the act of mob justice.
