Omoro LC5 seat splits FDC leaders

GULU- Seniors Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party officials in Gulu District have abandoned their own sole party flag bearer, Mr Simon Toolit Akecha for his rival Peter Douglas Okello, an independent candidate for the Omoro District Council chairman race.

Mr Okello, the former Gulu District Council speaker and NRM districtChairman, received backing from FDC party members after denouncing his party early last month.

Mr Toolit, who is the Gulu District FDC party Chairperson, was fronted as the party’s sole candidate on July 7, but a section of his party members disputed saying he was not candidate for the race.

The party members also accused Mr Toolit of consistent defeat Omoro County Parliamentary seat for two elections in which he lost to NRM’s Jacob Oulanyah.

On Thursday, FDC party members led by Gulu District chairman, Mr Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, accompanied Mr Okello for nomination while Mr Toolit was accompanied by the Gulu District Woman MP Ms Betty Aol Ocan.

According to Mr Mapenduzi, supporting Mr Okello does not portray any bias but the vast leadership skills Mr Okello has over his rival.

“Mr Okello has been ranked the best performing speaker in the country twice,” Mr Mapenduzi told Daily Monitor in an interview on Friday.

Ms Ocan, however, when contacted said the trio who refused to back the party will be subjected to disciplinary measures for violating the party’s electoral guidelines.
