Muntu rallies support for FDC candidate ahead of Omoro polls

By JAMES OWICH & JULIUS OCUNGI

Gulu- The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president, Maj Gen (rtd) Mugisha Muntu, has urged senior party members in Gulu District to support Mr Simon Toolit Akecha for the Omoro District chairperson seat instead of Mr Douglas Peter Okello, an independent.

Gen Muntu’s plea follows a recent move by some FDC officials in the district to rally their support behind Mr Okello.

Speaking to journalists at the weekend following a two-day closed door meeting with Gulu District FDC members in Gulu Town, the FDC president said the party agreed to support one candidate.

“We have unanimously agreed to support not only the LCV candidate but all the other candidates who are FDC flag bearers,” he said.

The details
Gen Muntu revealed that no member was coerced into changing his or her mind about their support for Mr Okello, adding that FDC as a party believes this is a way it resolves misunderstandings.

FDC also appointed Nwoya County MP Simon Oyet and Amuru District chairperson Michael Lakony as campaign coordinators for all party candidates in the newly-created Omoro District.
