RAKAI- At least six health workers in Rakai District have been interdicted over absenteeism and neglect of duty.
Those affected include two officials in-charge of Kacheera and Kyeebe Centre III respectively, three nursing assistants from Kabuwoko Health Centre III and one store keeper at Kakuuto Health Centre III.
According to a survey carried out by the State House Medical and Health Monitoring Unit between April and July, it was discovered that government on average spends Shs8.7 million annually on health workers who neglect their duties.
Among other common cases recorded include forgery of duty rosters, alteration of figures in drug stores and stealing of record books.
The interdicted staff were also recently implicated in stealing government drugs.
The report revealed that some health workers take unauthorised study leave. It was discovered that the in-charge of Kyeebe Heath Centre III got unsanctioned study leave with a forged stamp of the Ministry of Health.
Dr Diana Atwiine, the director of the unit, said all health workers are going to be responsible for all the losses they cause to government and will be paid basing on their performance.
