Her story
How would you describe yourself to a stranger?
I am a believer, gospel artiste and worship leader, philanthropist and a fashion designer. I am an introvert.
Please explain more about the things that define you…
As a gospel artiste, God has enabled me have two successful concerts, the latest being at Silver Springs Hotel.
I have since worked on two albums, travelled across East Africa, West Africa, South Africa and USA ministering through my music. I also work with Afrikids Foundation and I am into African fashion.
Do you remember the first time you met Godfrey?
Of course, I always knew him from a distance as a public speaker but we met around March or April 2013 when I wanted to hire sound equipment for my concert.
What got you falling in love with him?
We kept the friendship after that meeting, sometimes we met on different occasions, then later we even went out as friends talked about career and life issues (not yet in love).
Through this, he became my confidant , I found him intelligent, smart, a man who loves God and serving community, had values I admired, very loving and caring, one with a sense of humour he would make me laugh, so understanding and of course handsome.
With all this, deep in my heart, I just knew I needed him for life.
Were you single at the time you became friends?
Yes, I was single.
Tell me about your experience on the day Godfrey proposed to you
It caught me off guard, it was overwhelming , I didn’t know what was happening, everyone was screaming then when Godfrey came out with Pastor Michael Kimuli, I became speechless I felt like my tongue was tied up and so nervous.
Did you cry?
I had tears in my eyes when I held him tight after saying “Of course yes” then was rushed in the car to Sheraton Hotel.
How did the day go on and end?
Some friends who were part of the surprise joined us , so we closed it with fun, sharing beautiful messages from friends congratulating us, had something to eat, prayed then left.
What are the pillars upon which your relationship stands?
Trust, communication, prayer and sharing God’s word and, above all, love.
His story
How would you describe yourself to a stranger?
I am an evangelist, philanthropist, entrepreneur and author.
Please tell me a little more about each of the four facets…
As an evangelist, I run programmes locally and internationally through a mission organisation called Commission International. I also head evangelisation of Kampala City on the National Fellowship of Christian Leaders. As a philanthropist, I am involved in charity work through the Afrikids Foundation and support several relief and aid programmes.
Entrepreneur; I run several business entities in events, IT, finance and farming. As an author; I have authored several books including the popular “No Time to Die” based on my true life survival story.
How and when did you meet Hawa?
I met Hawa when she came to our company to hire sound equipment for her concert.
What got you falling in love with Hawa?
Hawa has an amazing and adorable inner beauty that melted my ego. It came with a genuine calm personality, great submission and respect for me, coupled with deep love for Jesus Christ and her maker.
How did you plan the proposal?
I got a crazy idea of doing a surprise marriage proposal at the traffic lights in Wandegeya, with the help of friends and the authorities. So on that day, I walked to the traffic officers at the Wandegeya lights, told them what I wanted to do.
So we waited until Hawa and her team were close, the officers stopped traffic and by the time she got to where I was, I believe she knew what was going on because I was surrounded by a group of people.
How did you pull it off?
I got my friend, Wilson Bugembe to get her occupied and drive her to the centre of the traffic lights junction. I got the skaters crew to roll around them and then I walked in with Pastor Michael Kimuli.
MC Pastor Franklin Mondo Mugisha accompanied by hundreds of friends, with police assistance, they stopped traffic. Then I got down on one knee and proposed to her amidst excitement from and the jubilant crowd. After the “Yes” from her, Pastor Michael Kimuli prayed for us in a minute and we drove off to Sheraton Hotel for the climax.
