Volleyball. Club patron and captain rally Nemostars to step up their pysche ahead of the Africa Club Volleyball Championshiop in Cairo, Egypt.
KAMPALA. As they prepare for their fourth straight appearance at the African Club Championship, Nemostars must rate themselves as a big team ready to rub shoulders with the best in the land.
This is after skipper George Aporu and patron Neko Muduse-Ojala expressed similar sentiments as Nemostars failed to make a mark at the Hon. Odera Cup in Moding, Kenya over the weekend. Nemostars played three games, winning one and losing the other two. They defeated Prisons Mombasa 3-2 but lost to Kenya Prisons in straight sets.
Nemostars made the last eight but went down 3-1 to eventual winners Kenya Port Authority (KPA), who will also represent Kenya at the 2016 Club Championship in Cairo, Egypt this month.
“We don’t believe we are a very big and feared team,” said Aporu.
“Our psyche is not good enough to help us win, especially outside Uganda. All the games we played in Kenya were winnable but we failed to utilise the leads and made childish mistakes which cost us.
“We have been around for some time and played some really tough competitions. We need to start behaving like a big team because our opponents give us that respect.”
Muduse-Ojala, nicknamed veteran coach, also had his say. “As a team, we surpassed the Kenyans a long time ago, but these guys are still behaving like small-team players,” he said.
“We started winning titles in Uganda five years ago but every time we go out, they choke like they are playing volleyball for the first time. They need to wake up.” Nemo were 21st out 22 last year.
