Women activists who petitioned the Electoral Commission to release all declaration result forms (see ‘Women activists petition EC over election results’, Daily Monitor, ‘March 1,), should not pretend to speak for the average Ugandan woman.
Except for one or two, all those women mentioned in that story were all national campaign task force members of Amama Mbabazi’s TDA-Go Forward.
They should speak in that capacity and not purport to speak for Ugandan women. After all, when their candidate made a sexist remark about two Ugandan female politicians during the first presidential debate, they were silent and never called him to order. Some of us will never forgive them for that until they apologise.
The so-called women rights activists in Uganda have sold their souls at the altar of monetised politics and lost any moral authority to speak for the ordinary Ugandan woman.
Their attempt at climbing the moral high ground should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.
