Midfielder Sserumaga joins SC Villa

Kampala- Just six months after releasing most of their seasoned first team players, SC Villa this week backtracked on that decision going for experience, ahead of their rerun to continental action in February.

The club announced on Thursday having had agreed terms with the trio of midfielder Mike Sserumaga, goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato and striker Mike Ndera who has been on loan at fellow topflight club Bul.

“There is no doubt about the experience and goal scoring ability that he adds to a team,” club coach Ibrahim Kirya said particularly of Sserumaga who joined from Lweza and last featured for the Cranes in the 2-0 defeat to Guinea in 2014.

The midfielder has however had a stop-start affair to the season scoring once in the first round after missing a number of the club’s games.

This was as a result of his involvement with an academy he started in his home area of Kajjansi .
“I know how to get the best out of him,” Kirya stated.

The player also has a controversial past that includes being expelled at previous club Sports Club Victoria University and by former Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson for breaking team curfews.

Villa concluded the first round in fifth place after a slow start in which they won only two of their opening seven games, leading to the sacking of Spanish coach Antonio Flores.

The other additions see Ssebwato rejoining from Tanzanian side Coastal Union having been one of 14 players let go after winning last season’s Uganda Cup.

Ndera meanwhile returns having scored three goals while on loan at Bul and earning a call up to Cranes provisional squad currently preparing for the Chan tournament.
