Kampala. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura, has announced a Shs20m reward for anyone who will avail information about the whereabouts of Mr Christopher Aine, the missing head of presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi’s private security detail.
Gen Kayihura said Mr Aine is wanted over the chaos that erupted between Mr Mbabazi and President Museveni supporters in Ntungamo District on December 13 last year.

“Aine is the key suspect in the Ntungamo incident but he has not yet been apprehended, as he is on the run or in hiding. As police, we are offering a Shs20m reward for anyone who will tell us where he is hiding,” Mr Kayihura told the media at police headquarters on Thursday evening.
At the time of the Ntungamo incident, Mr Aine was out of jail on bail after he had been arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers in September during Mr Mbabazi’s consultative meeting in Jinja District. However, the bail was cancelled following the Ntungamo incident and court summoned him to appear before January 6.

Yet to be arrested
“If he does not honour the court summons by January 6, we shall issue an arrest warrant,” Mr Kayihura vowed.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga told journalists on Monday that police were not aware of Mr Aine’s whereabouts, contrary to reports that he was in police custody in an unknown location.

He said police had learnt of Mr Aine’s disappearance only from the press and added that no official from Mr Mbabazi’s Go Forward campaign team or Mr Aine’s relative had filed a case of a missing person.
However, Ms Josephine Nkangi, the communications officer of the Go Forward, and Fred Muwema, head of Mbabazi’s legal team, insisted police know where Aine is.
Mr Muwema told Saturday Monitor that they had petitioned court to compel police to produce Mr Aine or his body if he is dead.

Museveni warning
During a media briefing in Mbale last week, President Museveni said whoever beat up his NRM supporters in Ntungamo would regret.
On Saturday, Mr Aine’s mother, Ms Jennifer Namuleme, asked Mr Mbabazi to produce her son when he made a stopover at Semuto Trading Centre in Nakaseke District to open a Go Forward office there.
However, Mr Mbabazi informed Ms Namuleme that he was equally searching for Mr Aine.
