RDC warns registrars on Museveni

Bushenyi- Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner has cautioned NRM party registrars against meddling in the mobilisation for re-election of President Museveni.

Mr Peter Mugisha said registrars involvement in the process is disorganising the party structures and creating confusion in the taskforces campaigning for the president.

He said his office is receiving several complaints that the party registrars have started clashing with the taskforces.

“We have these Nyekundeire (volunteer) groups who have been facilitated to canvas votes for President Museveni in villages, but after registrars heard about this, they have also decided to come in expecting to get something. They are now clashing with the volunteers at different points and we can’t allow that,” Mr Mugisha said.

He added that the officials need to know that their work stopped with the NRM primary elections and their involvement in rallying support for President Museveni must stop.

However, Mr Moses Bikanya, the Bushenyi District NRM registrar, said the registrars have a right to campaign for their flag bearers and the President after the primaries as long as they are aiming at winning the elections at all levels, saying it is not against the NRM rules.
