Buganda, China to build low-cost houses

Kampala- Buganda Kingdom in partnership with Chinese investors is set to build low-cost housing units on a vast estate in Ssentema, Wakiso District, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has said.

Mr Mayiga made the revelation on his return from Zhengzhou City in the Chinese province of Henan on Sunday evening.
He said Chinese investors will visit Uganda early 2016 to tour the site where the houses will be built.

“The Kabaka instructed us to initiate a housing project for low income earners, which resulted in this trip. We made progress. The investors we met are also interested in agriculture, tourism, and marketing our coffee,” Mr Mayiga said according to statement issued by his office.

The deal
The investors will be led by Henan Guoiji Group, a Zhengzhou-based company, which has already partnered with the kingdom to build Mirembe Villas, a real estate project on Kabaka’s land in Kigo, on the shores of Lake Victoria.

“Mirembe Villas is a high-end project and therefore not affordable to low income earners. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi is very keen that we develop a project the majority of his subjects can benefit from,” said Mayiga in the statement.
