Gulu- The Acholi Cultural Institution has elected a new prime minister to oversee the activities of the institution.
The new premier, Mr Ambrose Olaa, replaces Mr Philip Okin Ojara, who resigned mid this year and opted for active politics.
In an Interview with Daily Monitor in Gulu Town yesterday, Mr Olaa, said he is not new in the affairs of the Acholi chiefdom since he has been the minister in charge of finance and planning.
“I Have worked closely with the officials at the chiefdom for a long time and I hope that with the position given I will work harder to lift the institution to greater heights,”
He said he will spearhead talks with the government to ensure that when implementation of government programmes are ongoing, the cultural institution at the forefront.
“We already have existing structures on the ground, and we hope if the partnership with government is emphasised, it will be a push in effective service delivery,”
He said at the moment, the institution has only been partnering with NGOs, adding that it is high time the partnership with the government is also brought on board. He said there are gaps that need their presence as a cultural institution on the ground, Mr Olaa
He added that, plans are underway to revive and promote the Acholi cultural heritage that has since been forgotten as a result of war that rocked the region over the years.
Mr Olaa was elected by the council of elders at the Institution after several consultations with all the structures in the institution mid this year.
