Amudat.
The joint force of police and army has been heavily deployed along the border corridors of Kenya and Uganda following an attack by gunmen in Kapenguria and Lamu in Kenya.
Kapenguria the county assembly headquarters of West Pokot is just 198 kilometers from Amudat District on the Ugandan side.
Mr Richard Aruk Maruk the Moroto regional police commander said the measures are to ensure that attackers do not take advantage and cross into Uganda.
Gunmen that Kenya authorities suspect to be Al shabab attacked Kapenguria Police Station at 3am on Thursday morning, killing five police officers.
The attacks, according to the eye witness in Kapenguria, started after police arrested one man who was a teacher at Nakwijit School.
The witness said two men claiming to be friends to the arrested teacher demanded police to allow them see the suspect before they grabbed the gun from the police and shot the five dead.
The attackers then released the suspect from police custody.
Mr Maruk called upon the community along the border to be alert and report any strange people to the police.
“Although our borders are porous, we are not sleeping. We shall ensure that attackers will not take advantage to cross into our country,” he said.
He also said that the joint force is currently patrolling along Alakas border in Amudat and other areas that connect Uganda and Kenya.
