Taking down christmas decor

They were put up and now they have got to come down! Whenever this topic is brought up it stirs up a bit of a debate, which usually centres on what would be the appropriate time to take down Christmas decorations.

There are many theories to this. Traditionally, Catholics did not take down the tree until January 7, the day of epiphany.

This was done to follow the 12 days of Christmas tradition, the first day being Christmas day.
Taking down the decorations a day sooner or later was considered unlucky and therefore it was recommended that the decorations should stay up all year.

The 12 days end on epiphany, the day it is believed that the three wise men came to pay homage to baby Jesus.

While others do it the day after Christmas (after all they would have served their purpose) there are those who would rather wait till after New Year’s Day to throw out the Christmas tree and take down decorations.

One of the saddest things about the holidays is to see the Christmas tree go down. I guess people are not usually in a rush to take the decorations down because it symbolises the demise of a cheerful, peaceful and relaxing season and announces a return to the hustle and bustle routine of life.

All in all, this decision is the prerogative of the individuals seeing as there is no law one would be breaking, just enduring the constant questions and facial expressions implying you must be crazy to still have your Christmas decor still hanging up!
